It's Giving Tuesday! Have you donated today?
Here are some ways you can give back today:
Shop Small Business
Etsy is my personal favorite place for shopping small business. I can reach out to businesses I otherwise had not known about, miles and miles away. Here is one of my favorite Etsy shops called CopperandBrassPaper, they have the cutest notebooks! Here is another shop Handmade in Eden from West Virginia that has the coziest mugs. Both are great for holiday gifts. If you're getting a gift for a teacher, check out our campaign Magic Starts in the Mind.
Donating to Schools
If you prefer to give a monetary donation here is a cool website. Since we are a blog centered around education this website, Teacher's Lists, has school supply lists from all over the country. You can donate to your child's school, your old high school, or you can pick a random school in a random city and spread your act of kindness.
The Salvation Army
The Salvation Army is in a category all on it's own because they accept many different kinds of donations. They accept everything from clothing- to cars! You can even schedule a pick up so you don't have to go out of your way. They mention on their website that your donation is also tax deductible.
Donate Books
I will personally be doing this today, actually, right after I finish this post! If you're trying to donate old books to your local library call them first. Some libraries are at inventory capacity, but they have donation guidelines and they can direct you to someplace else. Believe it or not retirement homes are also accept book donations, so check out local retirement homes too!
Donate old furniture
You can check out local flea markets or even Habitat for Humanity. They have ReStores in which you can donate your unused furniture.
Donate old clothes
Check out parking lots! There is a building near me that has a clothing drop-off bin in their parking lot that I often donate to. If you're in the New York area check out this site. It has multiple ways you can donate second hand clothing.
GivingTuesday
Lastly, here is the GivingTuesday website for a full list of resources.
If everyone in the United States donated just $1, that would be around $331 million in donations. We can all make a difference if we come together and give back. Hey, you can even use your credit card points to get a gift card to use towards donations. When I shop small business, I consider that a way of giving back too.
